The Ritz Carlton Outline

1            Introduction

·         The Ritz-Carlton Hotels Company L.L.C. is the owner of 76 Ritz Carton hotels around the world.

·         The Ritz Carlton hotels are luxury resort located in more than 20 major cities in the world.

2            Early history

·         The first Ritz Carlton Hotel is the Ritz-Carlton Montreal. It was built in 1912 in Montreal.

·         The Ritz Carlton name came from the Swiss owner of the idea, César Ritz.

·         Cesar died in 1918, although his wife continued opening hotel in his name.

3            Development

·         The Ritz-Carlton property was sold over 5 times.

·         Gerald F. Blakeley Jr. (Ritz Carlton Owner 1964 – 1984( said that in the 20 years of running the hotel, the hotel only gained money for 3 years and broke even in the other 17 years.

·         W.B Johnson bought the property in 1983 and expanded the hotels to 30 locations around the world in 10 years.

4            Modern Development

·         The Ritz-Carlton Hotel is the only hotel that won 2 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Awards.

·         . The Ritz-Carlton Charlotte is the first Ritz-Carlton Hotel to win a LEED Gold Certificate and earn 5 diamonds.

·         The Ritz-Carlton L.L.C started The Ritz-Carlton Learning Institute and The Ritz-Carlton Leadership Center.

5            Conclusion

The Ritz-Carlton is without a doubt, one of the best hotels in the world. It’s truly is a magnificent company.

It was built in 1912 in Montreal (Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, Wikipedia). The hotels chain started with very few hotels. After receiving two awards, the hotel chain grew quickly in the U.S

              The most famous Ritz Carlton Hotel was the Ritz Carlton Boston. The property was sold over 5 times. It was first owned by The Ritz-Arlington in 1927. The owner, Edward N. Wyner died in late 1961. After his death, his 6 sons sold the property to Cabot, Cabot & Forbes 3 years later. Gerald F. Blakeley Jr. said that in the 20 years of running the hotel, the hotel only gained money for 3 years and broke even in the other 17 years. W.B Johnson bought the property in 1983 and expanded the hotels to 30 locations around the world in 10 years. Millennium Partners bought the property in 1998 and sold it to Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces in 2006.

            The Ritz-Carlton Hotel is the only hotel that won 2 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Awards. The Ritz-Carlton Charlotte is the first Ritz-Carlton Hotel to win a LEED Gold Certificate and earn 5 diamonds. The Ritz-Carlton LA was also awarded with LEED Silver Certificate (Hotels Reviews, Oyster). With all these accomplishments, The Ritz-Carlton Mega Kuningan had an unfortunate incident in 2009. Two suicide bombers attacked the hotel in the 17^th of July (Ritz-Carlton, Wikipedia).

       

         

           The Ritz-Carlton is without a doubt, one of the best hotels in the world. Luxury and Service is what it known from. The employees are always aiming for the customer satisfaction. Everyone that visits the hotels is treated with royalty. The Philosophy of the hotel is “Ladies and Gentlemen serving Ladies and Gentlemen”. The Ritz-Carlton Hotels is also known for making employees go through special training before working at the hotels in The Ritz-Carlton Learning Institute. Even the managers go through a special training to ensure that the employees are managed by a skilled person with leading skills. The Ritz-Carlton Learning Institute and The Ritz-Carlton Leadership Center are unique steps to the Ritz-Carlton Hotels (Luxury Hotels & Luxury Resorts, The Ritz-Carlton).

           The Ritz-Carlton truly is a magnificent company, everyone working that worked or still working should be happy. However, working for a big company like Ritz-Carlton requires a lot of skills. Managing the employees will require leadership skills. Being an employee will require patience and precision. Even though I like to write, I’d still be happy to work as a manager in The Ritz-Carlton.

Evolution of Processors (CPU)      Individual Assignment LSEC 1103

1            Introduction

·         CPU short for Computer Processing Unit, also known as “The Computer Processor” is a small portion on the motherboard that handles every command and process given by the user.

2            Early history

·         The CPU was first used on a computer called EDVAC.

·         The processor on this computer was made as a stored program (Software).

·         It was made by J. Presper Eckert and John William Mauchly in 1946.

3            Development

·         Computers change a lot as time goes by; many computers are made with better and more complicated process.

·         Companies continuously make new and better CPUs.

·         Intel and AMD are the only known companies that manufacture and develop CPUs.

4            Modern Development

·         Companies are able to make multi-core CPU,

·         Multi-core CPU is a computing component with two or more processing unit.

·         Companies like Intel and AMD are hoping to achieve more by adding more cores to a single CPU.

·         The more cores in a single processor, the more pressure it can handle.

5            Conclusion

·         Processors are like a computer’s brain. It can’t do anything or preform any operation without a decent processor.

Evolution of Processors (CPU)

           Computers are made of a lot of different input and output devices. But, how does a computer understand the commands given by the user of the computer? Each one of the computers we use in our daily life has a processor. CPU short for Computer Processing Unit, also known as “The Computer Processor” is a small portion on the motherboard that handles every command and process given by the user (Central Processing Unit, Wikipedia). It connects the input and output devices.

  

           The CPU was first used on a computer called EDVAC. The processor on this computer was made as a stored program (Software). It was made by J. Presper Eckert and John William Mauchly in 1946. Intel 4004, is the first public microprocessor made by the in 1971. It had the whole processing unit on a single chip. The chief designers were Federico Faggin and Ted Hoff of Intel, and Masatoshi Shima of Busicom (Intel 4004, Wikipedia). Of course, computers have changed since then.

              As time goes by, many computers are made with a lot better and more complicated process. That why companies developed the concept of computer processors by making it able to handle these changes and adapt to performance hoped to get from the specifications of the computer. Intel and AMD are the only known companies that made and developed CPUs in the past years. So far, both companies are able to make multi-core CPU, which is a computing component with two or more processing unit. The highest level achieved is by Intel when they made their 80-Core processor as a part of a research project. However, the CPU with most cores in it are the Quad and 8-Core, which are used on high performance computers and gaming consoles like the PlayStation3.

    

       

           Intel’s 2^nd generation processors are the best example for the development of the CPU processors. The 2^nd generation processors contain almost 995 million transistors. Each transistor in the processors is 32nm long. A 32nm takes one second to switch on and off 300 billion times. Comparing this processor to the first processor Intel made, the Intel 4004. This processor is 4,000 times faster and consumes 4,000 times less energy.

       Processors are made by very complicated steps. The Processing unit inside the processer is made out of pure silicon, taken mostly from beach sand. Making a CPU takes almost 30 steps from pure silicon to a 1 billion transistor CPU. The CPU is then placed on top of the processor chip. The processor is placed on the motherboard of the device by using gold plated pins.

     

         CPUs are like the brain of the computer, it does all the input/output operations. It’s better to think that the CPU developing will never end, and someday we will see Intel’s 80-Core Processor used in home computers. Maybe those processors will be for mobile phones someday.
